William Hague waded into the tax debate following the media crying foul about David Cameron's finances. It's another non story based on a salacious headline and a misunderstanding of what an offshore investment actually is.

The BBC clearly didn't get the interview they were after when they spoke with tax expert James Quarmby, my favourite comment was his thoughts on what the correct headline should have been, "man makes a modest investment and pays all his tax", not quite so attention grabbing I'm sure you'll agree...

While transparency is a good thing, lacking understanding and taking tabloids at face value is a very dangerous thing indeed. It's almost as if people forget that the media are there to sell papers, get clicks, etc, rather than worry about the truth behind articles.
